Dear Alumni Brothers of our Kappa-Omega Zeta of Lambda Chi Alpha,

I hope that this finds you well - and that in your world all things are the appropriate balance/blend of challenge-reward; obstacle-achievement; discouragement-blessing.

On behalf of the current Brothers of our Kappa-Omega Zeta collectively and myself personally, I would like to wish you the very best during this Holiday Season. The holidays, seemingly always bring with them an unusually frenetic pace - which sometimes we feel as if we cannot survive. It is my hope, however, [and I have to look in the mirror as I say this] that we all remember the great Gift of the Season, and that all else probably should ought to take on a secondary role to that focus.

This fall has been a very exciting and stimulating time at the "Tree House" [aka the Curry House]. Kevin Brown [Alpha], Nick Hanlon [Beta], the entire K-O Leadership Team and all of the Brothers have worked non-stop to ensure the ongoing success of Kappa-Omega. Many of the heavy burdens with which we were confronted at the beginning of the semester have been [or are being] resolved and success and excellence continue to be "hallmarks" of the men of Lambda Chi Alpha.

Please remember always - although many miles might separate us - the Curry House is YOUR house; Kappa-Omega is YOUR Zeta; the Brothers are naught but a continuation of YOUR Brotherhood. In all things - in all ways - we strive to be good stewards of the great legacy of Kappa-Omega with which you endowed us.

As I recently shared with our current Brothers - I am on a bit of a Christina Rossetti kick - and as such - have been reflecting a great deal upon her writings and thoughts. I want to close with well-known words by her regarding Love during the holiday season. It seems to my slightly addled-pate, that Love is what we are most about at Kappa-Omega. Love of God; Love of Country; Love of Family; Love of Brothers and the Brotherhood - this is what makes us all Men of Lambda Chi Alpha. May you have the most blessed of holidays - and be well in all things.

Love came down at Christmas, Love all lovely, Love divine;
Love was born at Christmas; Star and Angels gave the sign.

Worship we the God-head, Love incarnate, Love divine;
Worship we our Jesus, But wherewith for sacred sign?

Love shall be out token; Love be yours and Love be mine,
Love to God and all men, Love for plea and gift and sign.

Christina Rossetti

Brothers,

I want to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I hope things are going great for every one. I remember that some of my brothers remember meeting my mother and father while I was at school. At this time on Saturday it is very difficult to enjoy Christmas. The reason is that I just lost my mother at 3:30 Friday morning. Her death was came very quickly. She was hurting with some pain at 7:00 Thursday night and dad took her to the emergency room and then she died at 3:30 Friday morning. Her death came as a shock. This was not a good year for her. It is difficult right now but my brother and sister are here at home for a few days.

I wish all of you a very merry holiday,
David Sitler

Dear Alumni Brothers of Kappa-Omega Zeta,

I hope that this finds you well, and that in your world - all is challenging, stimulating, exciting and rewarding. Life here at Georgetown College remains pleasantly frenetic, and at the Curry House sometimes more than pleasantly frenetic [<smile>].

I know that you have received recent "word" from our new High Alpha, Kevin Brown - our new High Rho, Bryan Wimpy, and our most-beloved High Web-Master, Mark Lenahan, as well as, the Alumni Newsletter. To this veritable chorus, I would like to add my own humble voice - inviting you to Homecoming 2000 at the Curry House. I hope that you shall be able to attend "Festival of Song" on Friday evening, October 13th [and yes, the gents have a fine, fine "offering" planned for this year] and of course, visit down at the Curry House on Saturday, October 14th for the official Homecoming Festivities. There are few greater joys in our yearly sequence - than when we may again welcome back to the Curry House - Brothers from near and Brothers from afar - Brothers older and Brothers younger. I hope to see you on the weekend of October 14th.

"Every person carries his history with him; his history is manifest in his actions, and stamps his features with unerring precision. Every act of mind or body, open or secret, helps make each individual life, that is displayed in character. Each act records itself with a faint or deep impression, according to the nature and intensity of impulse that prompts it."

From "Shaker Wisdom" by Alonzo Hollister

You Alumni Brothers are our collective "history" - and you have bequeathed us with a great and formidable legacy. Our daily - weekly - monthly - yearly challenge is to live up to the great and storied tradition of Kappa-Omega.

My personal "battle-cry" for the Brotherhood this academic year - is "More heart than hand." Yes, Kappa-Omega is very fortunate as we continue to receive a panoply of accolades locally, regionally, nationally - and for this - we are humbled and grateful. I am on a mission, however, to help us understand that the strength of the Brotherhood - must come "from within". Our "most successful" year(s) are the year(s) when the Brotherhood of Lambda Chi Alpha is strongest and this is felt and sensed keenly by each Active and Alumni Brother.

Yes, of course - we have the usual daily challenges ["please keep the !#%^%& house picked up", "please remember you said you were gonna help with Watermelon Bust", "have you paid your dues", "gotta hit the books - you have a 1.35 GPA", "why weren't you at SongFest practice", "would someone please help me as I plan Fall Ritual", "was that a girl in your room at 3:00 AM last night"].....you have heard it all many times - over and over. And this year, we have some special challenges - as we work to re-coup the higher ground in the world of our internal finances and re-introduce the concept of fiscal responsibility to the Brothers. In this and all, please know that Kevin Brown, Nick Hanlon, Michael Birchett, & Co. are working over-time to "keep the boat floating" and all of the Brothers are "pitching in" - no one could want more. Except me. I do want more - because I want us to not just be ever-aware of the "external" - but also more focused upon and dedicated to the "internal" [hence - "more heart than hand"].

We have a great, great group of Brothers this year - and I know you will enjoy meeting and seeing them at Homecoming. We are blessed beyond reason, as we continue to have naught but the finest young men at the Curry House. The K-O leadership team is committed to the ongoing success of Lambda Chi Alpha at Georgetown College, and I know you will sense this renewed vigor and intensity of purpose as you visit.

Please know that I consider it a continuing professional privilege and personal pleasure to be a part of our Kappa-Omega Zeta. With each passing year, I more keenly sense the great role which LCA plays in the life of our Active Brothers, you - our valued Alumni Brothers and the greater Georgetown College campus community. We have something very, very "special" and know that in all things, we need your continuing help, support and guidance - and I am pledged to do whatever is in my meager power to further the "Cause" of Lambda Chi Alpha and the success of our Kappa-Omega Zeta. Be Well.

In Z.A.X.

Brothers,

Much time has passed since you last heard from me. For most of you, my last note was written when I was serving as your Alumni Secretary. Since that time I have had the privilege of serving as Fraternity Educator and now, President. You should have received your Fall 2000 newsletter by now, but if you haven't, please email me and I will inform your new Alumni Secretary, Bryan Wimpy. I am very excited about what Mr. Wimpy can do for the office of High Rho. I have met with him on several occasions to provide advice on getting many of our alumni programs rolling again, including the Alumni Advisory Board. Bryan will be contacting you soon via email to share more about his plans for the upcoming year.

As mentioned in your newsletter, Homecoming will be on Saturday, October 14, 2000. (For details on Homecoming activities, click here) We would like for you to make plans to attend. If you haven't seen the house in a few years, I think you will be pleasantly surprised. With your generous donations we have been able to make some nice additions to the house, including ceramic tile, textured walls, and most recently, new couches. We are very proud of our nicely renovated house and we would like for you to come and see what your sacrifices have enabled us to do.

Be expecting great things from Kappa-Omega this year. I reminded our brothers last week in our business meeting about the past and present sacrifices our chapter has made to keep us at the top!! I challenged them to never be satisfied with simply saying, "We're the best..". Being the best has so much to do with doing your best in all things. We are committed to earning this reputation this year, but we need your help. As good as our chapter is, we can always be better. Much of our improvement this year and in years to come will depend on your input. You have given so much of your time and abilities over the years to begin the tradition that has given brothers a reason to say, "We're the best..." Together we can keep this legacy alive!!!

Please know that I will do everything I can to lead the chapter in preserving a brotherhood that each of us has cherished. I am here for you, along with our High Rho, Bryan Wimpy, to provide a lifelong Lambda Chi Alpha experience. We must all remember that we are brothers for life...

I remain in your debt and most respectfully yours...

In Z.A.X.,

Kevin W. Brown

Dear Alumni Brothers,

It is with great pleasure that I introduce myself as your new High Rho. I too hope that this greeting finds you in good health and spirits.

This is my second year at Georgetown College, and if it was not for the new brotherhood found in Kappa Omega Zeta it might not have been so. I came to GTC after serving in The Marine Corps., and needless to say the transition was unusual. I came from a strong band of brothers in the Corps. to what in my initial experiences was nowhere close in comparison. Fortunately Lambda Chi Alpha found me and showed me their strong band of brothers.

I cannot thank you enough for the legacy you have left behind for men such as myself. Although the active brothers here might not be as old as I, they make up for it with the traditions, principles, and ideas instilled in them.

Please do not ever forget the sacrifices you have endured to make Kappa Omega Zeta what it is today. I joined the USMC, because it was the most challenging military branch, and also the best. I chose Lambda Chi Alpha for the same reasons, for it is the fraternity that will challenge me, and it is also the best.

Now I would like to acknowledge a few of Alumni that have recently been of great help to me while serving as High Rho. They are as follows:

Bill Beams KOZ 384
Mark Lenahan KOZ 898
Nathan Smith KOZ 1102

I am very excited about the events of Homecoming coming up on the 14th of October. Also from information revealed it appears the Alumni Advisory Board has not been utilized like it was in the past for about a year. During Homecoming we have planned to have an Alumni Advisory Board meeting. The purpose of the meeting will be to reiterate the importance of the board to you. I have given a copy of brothers that made up the board to all the current Zeta officers. If you were on the board in the past you should be receiving correspondence from the individual officers soon.

One last thing I need to add is about one of our active brothers. Scott Earwood- KOZ 1134- wanted me to inform you that he will be relocating to the Louisville area in January after he finishes up his last semester at Georgetown. If any of you know where he could possibly seek employment he would greatly appreciate the help. Scott will have a degree in finance with a minor in psychology. He can be reached at:

105 Colony Blvd.
Georgetown, KY. 40324
Phone: (502) 863-3171
Email: searwood0@hotmail.com

Thank you for taking the time to read this introduction letter from me. I am here to serve you, so please do not hesitate to contact me if I can ever be of assistance.

Brothers,

Barb, the boys and I have moved.  Some of you already knew this and others might be finding out for the first time.  Well we are now living in Dallas, NC and I am the pastor of Long Creek Memorial Baptist Church.  It has been quite a month since Barb actually moved over here at the very beginning of August.  She is teaching 5th grade again, math and science again, but now at Forest Heights Elementary School in Gastonia, which borders Dallas to the South.  If you are looking for it on the map find Charlotte and go west on I-85 till you see Gastonia and we live north of Gastonia just a few miles.

I am writing this note to tell you first of all that our email address is the same ...
kapblp@yahoo.com   ... even though we are now on Bell South DSL.  I prefer to continue using that address so that I don't have to change it with all of the many places that have that one.  However you might find me sending an email from a BellSouth address (this one is coming from there) and I would get it if you send it there too, but please use the yahoo account address.

Now for the most important reason for writing ...   Our new address is...

Kevin and Barb Purcell
205 Long Creek Church Rd.

Dallas, NC 28034

Our new phone number is ... (704) 922-2909

Please pray for us in this transition and for the church we will be serving.  Also pray for Evergreen as they seek a new pastor. Well, its been fun.

God bless,

Kevin Purcell

Dear Alumni Brothers of our Kappa-Omega Zeta,

I hope that this finds you in fine fettle and that all is well in your corner of the world. I apologize for being a NGC [Non-Great Communicator] for the past few months - all that I can say in my pitiful defense is that as my hair grays and generally falls out - I think I am also losing some of the precious few brain cells which I have left. Mea Culpa.

As I hope you know, the world of our Kappa-Omega Zeta is indeed thriving. We took in a wonderful "crop" of N.I.B.s [Newly Initiated Brothers] and I see and sense in them - our collective future. We are indeed blessed to have these great young gents as part of Lambda Chi Alpha. Additionally, we have just recently installed our new KOLT [Kappa-Omega Leadership Team] for the 2000-2001 academic year which is as follows.....

Alpha, Kevin Brown; Beta, Nicholas Hanlon; Gamma, Michael Birchett; Tau, Matt Stewart; Iota, Josh Adams; Kappa, Jamie Johnson; Delta, Martin Rains; Phi, Stephen Oakes; Epsilon, Rigel Ball; Sigma, Kyle Gibson; Rho, Bryan Wimpy; House Manager, Britton Smith Athletics, Adam Speaks; Song Leader, Clay Lester; Chaplain, Matt Whitaker; IFC, John Graybeal & Justin Swaggerty; EC, Joey Coleman & Nathan Burgett

I am very excited about the energy, ability and background which these young men will bring to their leadership roles. Most of you know Kevin Brown [aka Hoss-Cat], our new High Alpha, and know of the great leadership which he will bring to our Zeta; and you will be hearing a great deal from Bryan Wimpy, [aka Seaman (sp?)], our new High Rho, who I am convinced will "raise the bar" considerably in the area of Alumni Affairs. These gentlemen, our other Zeta Officers, plus our wonderful, current Brothers are commited to the continued and ongoing success of Kappa-Omega Zeta.

I would also be highly remiss, if I did not extend a warm, and most heart-felt thanks to Alan Redditt [our recent-past Alpha] and our leadership team from the 1999-2000 academic year. These young men helped sustain us in many ways, and their efforts on behalf of the Brotherhood were evident at the recent, 3rd Annual Greek Awards Banquet, where our Kappa-Omega Zeta of Lambda Chi Alpha was honored with.....

Oustanding Fraternity - Academics
Outstanding Fraternity - Community Service
Oustanding Fraternity - Campus Involvement
Outstanding Fraternity - President's Cup
Fraternity Advisor of the Year - Pete LaRue

We have many challenges laying before our K-O Zeta as we prepare for the coming academic year, and I know these challenges will also bring us great and unexpected opportunities. We are pledged to; 1) the re-invigoration and completion of the House Renovation Project, 2) the renewal and enhancement of our ongoing communications, interactions and relations with you, our Alumni Brothers, 3) increased fiscal awareness and responsibility, 4) increasing our collective GPA to a 3.35, and 5) striving in all things - in all manners and fashions - to be exemplars of the strongest Brotherhood possible. We know that with your continuing help and support that these goals [and others] will be possible, and that we shall look back at the 00-01 academic year, as one to be remembered well, always.

Please know that I am humbled and blessed to have the continuing professional privilege and personal pleasure to be a part of our Kappa-Omega Zeta. Thank you for your past support, your continuing encouragement and the future assistance which I know you will extend to our Brothers collectively, and myself personally. I would like to close with a Bible verse - which I share often [though contrary to popular belief - it is not the only one I know - I know one other]. Thanks & Thanks.

Thessalonians 5, 14-18

"And we exhort you brethren, admonish the idle, encourage the faint-hearted, help the weak, be patient with them all. See that none of you repays evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to all. Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."

Most Warmly,

Our sympathy goes out to the family of Marty Kennedy who passed away on Sunday, March 19. It appears that he died from heart failure while sleeping. His wife, Jo, said he had been feeling weak and laid down to nap, but never recovered. Marty was instrumental in coordinating the recent Lambda Chi Alpha reunions.

Dear Brothers,

It is with great pleasure that I am able to write you once again. The undergraduate chapter has had an excellent month. The new associate class is doing very well.

Last weekend, we held Family Day, where we invited the families of all the actives to see the house, listen to some updates on the fraternity, to have lunch with us, and to enjoy the basketball game together. The Beta, John Huff, did an excellent job in putting all that together.

I am very busy working in Frankfort as an intern at First Baptist Church. My schedule has been very tight, but I will try to send you some more regular e-mails. By the way, if you don't mind a little plug for myself, I am looking for employment in the Bowling Green/Nashville area beginning after graduation in May. If any of you know of any openings, please contact me and I can send you some copies of my resume. Thank you very much.

We still have some brothers looking for internships in the financial world. If any of you can help, please contact me.

Kappa-Omega is going strong. If you can, please stop by for a visit anytime or visit our business meeting Monday nights at 7:30. You are most welcome. We hope to see you soon. Take care of yourselves.

Dear Alumni brothers of Kappa-Omega,

I am pleased to again greet you on behalf of the undergraduate chapter. My computer has been down recently (NOT y2k related) and I think that everything is back to normal now. That's the reason we have been out of touch.

Things are going very well for the chapter. We recently had a consultant from the general chapter and his visit was very constructive.

Some of the active brothers are currently looking for internships and other work for the summer. If any of you are hiring students and/or accepting interns, please look to the brothers of Kappa-Omega. One student in particular is looking for an internship in the world of Finance. If any of you has anything available, please let me know.

The alumni advisory board will be meeting soon, so please be looking for that.

We are knee-deep in the rush season at Georgetown and Kappa-Omega's prospects look very nice. Men's chapel day is THIS FRIDAY at 4:30 pm. We would love to have you attend and usher in the new associates. I will keep you updated on the guys that we get.

If anyone would be interested in a Lambda Chi Alpha golf scramble, please let me know. I'd like to plan that if there is enough interest and participation.

Have a great week and week-end. I'll talk with you again soon.

Daniel Glaze
